Clinical Learning & Assessment Center

Dr. Michael and Wendy Saltzburg Clinical Learning & Assessment Center

Hands-on • High-tech • Interconnectivity

The new 11,000 square foot experiential learning facility provides a safe, controlled and fully monitored environment for all PCOM students to learn and practice clinical skills, develop crucial communication abilities and demonstrate clinical competencies. This project, largely funded by extraordinary contributions from Michael C. Saltzburg, DO '77, and his wife Wendy Saltzburg, as well as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, is the cornerstone for PCOM to be among the preeminent health sciences institutions. The Saltzburg Center became operational in January 2014, and integrates the standardized patient (SP) program with a robust simulation clinical experience. The simulation environment consists of large hospital rooms, plus smaller simulator practice rooms, and houses human patient simulators, virtual reality sims, task trainers and models. SPs allow students to practice in a supportive environment prior to treating real patients. Patient conditions and problems can be developed and altered to suit educational objectives. This prepares students to successfully and confidently transition into practice.
